SyncToy v2.0 is a free tool from Microsoft which is currently in beta. This provides a very easy to use GUI for automating the synchronization of files and folders.
There's a small configuration that has to be performed after the installation. Creating the folder pair and assigning the folders for both the left and right folders. We can create multiple folder pairs for synchronizing between different folders/systems. The whole GUI is very intuitive to use.
SyncToy provides 3 types of synchronization.
- Synchronize : New and updated files are copied both ways. Renames and deletes on either side are repeated on the other.
- Echo : New and updated files are copied from left to right. Renames and deletes on the left are repeated on the right.
- Contribute : New and updated files are copied from left to right. Renames on the left are repeated on the right, but no deletions.
